“One night, Nick hadn’t coming home yet. There’re cops looking for him. You know what he did? Nick and his two friends had fought with a pupil from other school that made the pupil dead. Since that night, Nick never came home.”
“I and your Dad were shock. Your Dad lost his job because of that. The pain and deep shame suffered him quite long until his death. Before dead, he could forgive Nick. But I couldn’t…”
I surprised to hear that. Mom’s voice sounds cold and full of anger.
“Mom, everything is over, it’s been past ten years…”
I hold my word. It’s been past ten years, Nick suppose to be 26 right now. But, why….? Suddenly I remember my last dream about him. Oh, my God, Nick! His apologize wasn’t for me, it was for Mom. He needs my help…
“Mom, please forgive Nick! However, he is your son. Believe me, Mom, he regret for everything he did. Even God will forgive the guilty people.”
“If he’s coming back, he must beg the forgiveness in your Dad’s grave.”
“What if he would never come back? Would you forgive him?”
Mom stares at me sharply.
“Why do you say that?”
I look to her sadly. Actually I don’t want to make her more hurt, but I have to tell her about everything. I have to help Nick, and to make Mom realizing her mistake. I tell her about my dreams, Nick’s presents in our house, and his fought with two gangsters’ boys to defend on me, until my last dream about him…
Mom is frozen in her deep sadness. I caress her hand gently. The tears fall dawn from her sad old eyes.
“Would you forgive him now, Mommy? Let him “go home”. Without your forgiveness, he wouldn’t rest in peace. Now Daddy wouldn’t be alone anymore…”
At least, Mom nods weakly.
“Thank you, Mommy.”
I wake and walking out to leave Mom, she needs to be alone right now.
I’m in the living room when I hear someone knocking the front door. I look to a clock, it’s already over 10 pm. Who is coming this late?
I look through the window, I see no one out there. But I decided to open the door. I see someone standing about 5 meters over me. It’s Nick! He’s standing in the garden, no longer out there under the tree. I watch him in a great happiness and so much missing him. “Go home” Nick! Go back to your new home. Mom already forgives you…
Nick smiles to me, a happiness smile. He looks very handsome tonight. I see no longer pain in his eyes. Those eyes shine so brightly.
“Thank you, Nina. Now I could leave in peace. Give my best love to Mom. Take good care, Sis, and Moms too. Good bye Sister, I love you…”
After Nick whispered the last good bye, then he despairs. He’s gone forever to leave the emptiness.
